Our students are growing silkworms!
Students of NUN Girls and Boys School has put an exciting project into practice. As part of their Biology lessons, they started to grow silkworms! For over 5 weeks students will observe the process, they will have the role of taking care of silkworms and see closely how silkworms undergo a complete metamorphosis.
Our silkworm eggs will begin to hatch in about 2 weeks. In this project, the students will have the responsibility to make sure that silkworms will be fed every day either with mulberry leaves from our very own mulberry trees in the campus or by bringing mulberry leaves to the campus from their surroundings. The students will be able to watch the silkworms develop any time they want.
After hatching, the caterpillars will shed their skin four times while they are growing. Once the silkworms become cocoons, the students will see them hatch into moths. If we are lucky the moths that mate will lay hundreds of eggs and our students will be able to continue the project without interruption for a long time.
Our students are looking forward to observing the project. Our goal is to help our students to develop an awareness and a deeper appreciation for the diversity of life as well as academic knowledge thanks to this project.
