We hosted Ziya Selçuk, Minister of National Education at NUN Schools

Minister of National Education Prof. Dr. Ziya Selçuk, met with our students and teachers at our Beykoz Campus. Selcuk said that the first duty of teachers is to recognize themselves. He also gave important advises to students: “Do not index your life to success. To know is not to be. You first will know, and then do and then be it.”
The Minister of National Education, Dr. Ziya Selçuk who has an extensive knowledge and experience in education. came together with our students and teachers at the Beykoz Campus of NUN Schools. Answering the questions of the participants, Selçuk explained that education reveals the hidden treasure in humanity by saying “Education is unmasking the mystery of a person” He added “We need to put the student in the centre of education and never forget that education is a process of maturation to enrich the students”.
On a question about the Education Vision of 2023 he said “We need goals far ahead of the projects we dream of today. To accomplish these goals, we need to have ideals, we need to dream about them. We should never lose our faith and courage. If we have all these parameters at the same time, we can go far beyond the point we want.” Underlining that their goal is not to reach the educational systems of today's developed countries, Selçuk said “I would like to develop the education system not only for industry and economy but for its ontology.” He added “We have already done this in the past. Our biggest advantage is our historical experience.”
Minister of National Education Selcuk, underlining the difficulties of the teaching profession, stated that in order for a healthy teacher-student relationship, the teacher should recognise him/herself first and follow an an appropriate approach to ensure that students fulfil their potential. Emphasizing that the first duty of a teacher is to recognise him/herself, Selcuk advised “Be a role model to your students with your behaviours rather than your words.”

Upon a question on whether the correct language is used in the field of education, Selçuk answered "Turkey needs to re-establish a historical language. But, using a language is not enough on its own. If you don't fill its contents it gets poisonous. To persecute the word is a great sin. You should activate it.” Selcuk pointed out that the education is similar to a marathon rather than a 100-meter run, and advised students to delve into a few subjects. Advising students “If you dig in the well, you find water”, Sekçuk, called out all the students to be fair in every moment of their lives.
Speaking about the school development model practised under 2023 Education Vision, Selçuk stated “School development model means that each school will be monitored over 24 parameters.
Scoring will be based on the principle of justice, not on the equality. We want to decrease the 68% difference between the school with the best opportunities and the worst to 20% in 5 years.
After the interview, Prof.Dr. Dr. Ziya Selçuk, had a tour in Beykoz Campus of NUN Schools.
