Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education R&D Press and Publication Workshop

As part of the Young R&D Project led by the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, the Press and Publication Workshop was hosted by NÛN Middle School. The session was conducted under the leadership of Elif Akardaş, Head of the Turkish Department and a children’s books author, offering students an introduction to the fundamentals of school journalism.
Students engaged in an intensive and productive process, stepping into the world of publishing behind the scenes. Held in the school library, the workshop aimed to establish a solid and sustainable foundation for the school magazine. Participants examined various publications with the precision of a reporter and approached content creation from a critical perspective.
The workshop included practical exercises on writing effective and engaging headlines, which students applied to their own work. One of the highlights was the mini-interview activity, where groups produced original content and designed one-page magazine drafts.
By hosting this workshop, NÛN Middle School showcased the Young R&D Project’s commitment to fostering original thinking, critical reading, and creative production skills. At the end of the session, students shared their excitement and motivation for preparing the first issue of the school magazine.
