Visit to the Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam & Our Cultural Heritage Awareness

As part of the chemistry class, 11E students visited the Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam to revisit the scientific legacy rooted in Islamic civilization, refresh cultural memory, and reinforce the steps of scientific inquiry on site. During the trip, students observed how the topics covered in class come to life, guided by the works and translations of Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin, a scholar who devoted his life to research in this field.
Throughout the visit—where the Qur’an’s emphasis on reason and knowledge was once again underlined—students examined the scholarly contributions of luminaries raised by Islamic civilization. They explored architectural works, observatories, urban development initiatives, and exhibits on optics, alchemy, medicine, and the healing arts. They also analyzed, through sketches and full‑scale models, the inventions developed for shipbuilding, maps, mechanical devices, hydraulic systems, lenses, compasses, astrolabes, and various timepieces—innovations that paved the way for major geographical explorations.
For our students—representatives of a geography that has hosted many civilizations—this visit refreshed a sense of stewardship for cultural heritage and proved highly enriching both intellectually and spiritually. Alongside the horizons of the modern age, the program aimed to strengthen students’ awareness of their own roots and support future linguists, historians, theologians, philosophers, engineers, and physicians in their holistic formation. The activity concluded with a reflective tea break where students shared the insights awakened by cultural heritage.
