Celebrating The Conquest Of Istanbul
The 572nd anniversary of the Conquest of Istanbul was celebrated with meaningful events organized as part of Conquest Week at our school. Under the guidance of the Secondary School Social Studies Group, a "mehter" (Ottoman military band) team was specially formed, comprising our middle school students. One of our students in this special team also took on the representative role of Fatih Sultan Mehmet.
The mehter team, led by "Fatih Sultan Mehmet," visited the primary school campus, creating a historical atmosphere for their younger peers. During the visit, a pleasant and instructive interview program titled "A Day with Fatih Sultan Mehmet" was also organized. In this event, our student acting as the Sultan explained the conquest, the conditions of the time, and the spirit of conquest to the young students.
While our primary school students enjoyed a fun and educational experience during the program, our middle school students also had the valuable opportunity to connect with the past, develop historical empathy, and enhance their presentation skills through this historical reenactment.
Through this meaningful event, our students had the chance to understand the importance of the Conquest of Istanbul in our history more deeply, strengthen their sense of national unity, and truly experience the power of learning by reliving historical events.
