Ecology and Zero Waste Club

Students from the Ecology and Zero Waste Club participated in a workshop exploring traditional food preservation methods.
After learning about the role of natural fermentation in food preservation, students compared vinegar- and saltwater-based methods while preparing their own jars of pickles. Over a ten-day observation period, they monitored how microorganisms affected the food and documented changes throughout the process. By connecting traditional culinary knowledge with scientific inquiry, the activity strengthened students’ awareness of sustainable production, respect for resources, and appreciation of the value of food.
