Writing Club

Our Writing Club students came together for a workshop focusing on character creation, one of the fundamental building blocks of fictional writing, explored from both technical and creative perspectives. Conducted under teacher guidance, the session examined the elements that give a character literary depth.

The workshop began with the analysis of a tangible object introduced under the theme of a “lost item.” Guided by questions such as “Who owns this object?” and “What are its owner’s motivations and concerns?”, students engaged in collective thinking that marked the starting point of an in‑depth character journey. By combining observation with imagination, students designed original characters with background stories, thoughts, and conflicts that went beyond outward appearance.

In later stages, students focused on their characters’ desires, fears, and core secrets, discovering that what truly brings a character to life is psychological depth and an authentic “inner identity.” After writing about their characters’ purpose in life, students communicated with peers, gaining insight into diverse perspectives. As part of a five‑week storytelling journey, this workshop will continue with interdisciplinary creative writing sessions led by the Turkish Department.
