Out‑of‑School Learning – Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory

As part of the Out‑of‑School Learning program for the 2025–2026 academic year, students visited Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory. The visit aimed to examine ongoing work in earth sciences and astronomy on site, to recognize the culture of scientific institutions, and to support disaster awareness.
In the History of the Observatories section, students received briefings about scientific instruments exhibited in the historic seismograph building and the observatory’s scholarly legacy. In the Astronomy Laboratory, they were introduced to solar observations, sunspot measurements, and data production processes through the Carl Zeiss equatorial telescope. Within the Disaster Preparedness Training Unit, the AHEP process, earthquake‑awareness activities, and the importance of preparedness were discussed. In the Meteorology Laboratory, measurement systems, data collection, and weather‑forecasting processes were presented.
The trip proceeded safely and efficiently in line with established guidelines. Post‑visit reflection and evaluation activities reinforced the learning outcomes.
