Great Success of our Student at Google Science Fair!
Our student, Nida Memnune Totu made it to become a finalist of the contest organised under Google Science Fair and ranked among the top 100 in the world and top 12 in Turkey.
“Natural anti-bacterial solution made of rain water and persimmon calyx” project was selected as a finalist from Europe, Africa and Middle East Region at Google Science Fair organized to reveal innovative sides of the youth and encourage them to bring solutions to environmental problems. The 100 regional finalists will compete to be among 20 Global Finalists in July 2019; the finalists to be announced in May will attend the award ceremony in Mountain View, California.
Nida took her inspiration from the idea that people should live in a clean environment in order to prevent the spread of diseases and started her project by drawing attention to the fact that hygiene products contain too many chemicals. Our student then asked, “Would it be possible to make environmentally friendly, 100% natural and cost effective hygiene products to make it accessible to everyone?” She started to work on Persimmon calyx, a green sepal which you usually just throw away before eating the fruit. She merged persimmon calyx, which includes an effective anti-bacterial phyto-chemical substance, with pure rain water and came up with a perfect surface blow.
