Historic Monuments of Istanbul & "Otağ" Exhibition

To bring students closer to Istanbul’s rich history and traditional culture, a series of activities was completed for grades 5 and 6. The exhibition grew out of a project recommended by the Social Studies Department in the midterm assignment booklets. Using the holiday as an opportunity to learn, students voluntarily took part in the “Istanbul’s Historic Monuments & Otağ Design” project. After the break, they shared their observations and experiences with peers through a special exhibition prepared at our school.
The exhibition featured student‑made models of Istanbul’s iconic architecture and otağ forms—elements that hold an important place in Turkish culture. The work aimed to develop skills in design and in analyzing the architectural details of historic structures. By translating theoretical knowledge into design, students engaged more deeply with the aesthetics and lifestyles of the past.
Grounded in volunteer participation, the project also offered a platform for students to showcase their individual talents and to cultivate creative habits beyond the formal academic schedule.
