Center Of Knowledge And Wisdom: Merkez Efendi̇ Hazi̇resİ Vi
Grade 9 students made a visit themed "Center of Knowledge and Wisdom" to the Merkez Efendi Haziresi (Merkez Efendi Cemetery) and Yenikapı Mevlevihanesi (Mevlevi Lodge). They examined Ottoman gravestone symbols, read Ottoman Turkish inscriptions. They learned about the life stories of the scholars buried there.
At the Mevlevi Lodge in Yenikapı, students explored Tasavvuf (Sufi culture). They explored the symbolism and cultural value of Semâ Mukabelesi (Whirling Ceremony), gaining insights into its meaning and practice. After the visits, students were assessed academically to evaluate what they had learned.
This experience enhanced cultural continuity awareness and historical literacy, while also gaining a fundamental insight and familiarity with Ottoman Turkish and its inscription, and developing a conceptual understanding of Sufi culture. In addition, students' ability to observe their surroundings was supported, while their awareness of cultural continuity was strengthened.
