Beykoz Glass and Crystal Museum Compost Yard Trip

As part of the Science unit on “Matter Cycles,” Grade 8 students visited the Compost Area at the Glass and Crystal Museum for a hands‑on learning experience. During the activity, students directly observed how organic waste is returned to nature through the composting process.
Throughout the visit, students examined the stages of biological decomposition and monitored the thermal changes occurring during the maturation of compost. Observing how microbial activity increases the temperature to 60–65°C provided a concrete understanding of natural cycles.
This field‑based experience, which combined theoretical knowledge with real‑world practice, strengthened students’ awareness of ecological balance and sustainability while deepening their connection with nature.
