Balat To Eyüp: A Tour Of Historical And Spiritual Sites

Grade 10 students explored the historical and spiritual heritage of Istanbul through a comprehensive trip from Balat to Eyüp. The program included visits to Fener Rum Patrikhanesi (Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople), Fener Rum Lisesi (Phanar Greek Orthodox College), Moğol Kilisesi (Church of St. Mary of the Mongols), and other significant landmarks.
Students also visited the sacred sites of Balat, such as the tombs of Ebu Zer el-Gıfârî, Tokmak Dede, and Ebu Şeybe el-Hudri, including the first cemetery of Istanbul, deepening the spiritual atmosphere with prayers. To continue a ritual in our culture and religion, Surah Al-Fatiha was read in all those places.
With a short break on the colorful streets, the nostalgic atmosphere of Balat was felt, and the social fabric of the region was observed on site by the students.
Students strengthened historical awareness, cultural appreciation, and observational skills. This experience fostered meaningful social connections beyond the classroom.
