Spring Equinox Eco‑Hiking Activity

With our high school students, a comprehensive Eco‑Hiking activity was organized in the forested area of Mahmut Şevketpaşa Village, known for its rich ecosystem, to mark the spring equinox. Conducted along an approximately 10‑kilometer route, this long‑duration nature walk was designed not merely as a physical activity, but as a multi‑layered learning experience.
Throughout the activity, students observed seasonal transitions firsthand and examined land, air, and water ecosystems from a holistic perspective. By practicing cooperation, team discipline, and strategic thinking in relation to the field conditions, students directly experienced the cyclical structure of ecosystems.
Having previously visited the same area during the autumn equinox, students were able to evaluate terrain conditions and seasonal change through a comparative approach. This experience engaged in physical endurance and cognitive capacity. Students reinforced their classroom knowledge in an authentic setting, resulting in lasting learning gains, particularly in internalizing environmental awareness through experience.
