We Discussed the Concept of Searching for Meaning with Sadettin Ökten and Kemal Sayar

Within the scope of Beyond Education Talks, our first guests were Prof. Kemal Sayar and Prof. Sadettin Ökten. In the event titled A Life in Search of Meaning, a wide-ranging conversation from education to envisioning civilization, from book recommendations to a more meaningful concept of life was held.
Prof. Ökten made the following recommendations to young people in the interview, which was broadcast live on the Beyond Education YouTube channel: “In order to escape the chaos of this modern life, the youth should leave their cell phones, move away from social media and go after their elders. If they cannot find the elders, they should find and read the books written by them. They should not be interested in every subject, they should classify their curiosity and run after them. They should especially put emphasis on mathematics and language.” Underlining that being patient is very important in education, Ökten said, “The first condition to learn a subject is to persevere. It is very difficult to understand and internalize an issue without concentrating on it." Stating that simplifying life will bring happiness and success, Ökten said, “In the globalisation society, there is no time for consumption, I am speaking of a system built on purchasing. We can only resist this by minimalising our lives."
