Academicians in the Class - "About Conquest" with Coşkun Yılmaz

As part of our traditional “Academicians in the Class” program, students met with Coşkun Yılmaz, President of the Manuscripts Institution of Türkiye. Met with our preparation class and grade 7, 8, 9, and 10 students, Yılmaz focused on the Conquest of Istanbul and the legacy of Fatih Sultan Mehmet.
Moving beyond a purely chronological understanding of history, the session presented the concept of conquest as a multidimensional civilizational process, encompassing not only territorial expansion but also the establishment of justice, intellectual growth, and moral responsibility. Moving beyond a purely chronological understanding of history, the session presented the concept of conquest as a multidimensional civilizational process, encompassing not only territorial expansion but also the establishment of justice, intellectual growth, and moral responsibility. Through rich historical insights, students explored Fatih Sultan Mehmet’s intellectual depth, strategic vision, and deep respect for knowledge.
This encounter enabled students to interpret history not merely as past events, but as a living consciousness that continues to shape the present, strengthening their awareness of cultural heritage and their role in carrying it forward.
