Traces Of Mimar Sinan Around Istanbul: Üsküdar Excursion

An inspection tour covering the significant works of Mimar Sinan was conducted with 11th-grade students in Üsküdar. Numerous elements of classical-era architecture were examined firsthand through observations made at key stops: the Valide-i Atik Complex (Külliyesi), the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, the Mimar Sinan Bazaar, and the Şemsi Ahmed Pasha (Kuşkonmaz) Mosque.

Evaluations were made on spatial arrangement, balance elements, the use of light, and ornaments inside and around the visited structures. These activities allowed students to gain architectural knowledge not just in theory, but by observing the buildings.

The tour provided students with skills such as observation, development of spatial perception, on-site examination of cultural and historical heritage, analysis and interpretation, and inference through careful examination. Furthermore, it ensured that their awareness of classical-era architecture was increased and that they evaluated architectural aesthetic elements with a holistic perspective.
