Our Students are at a Shoe Repair Shop
As a follow up activity of “Don’t Buy; Produce.” project which started in the last year, our students paid a visit to a “Shoe Repair Workshop” where they repaired their old shoes to reuse them.
In today's consumer society, we see that the bench time of each item is reduced and the ones that are still usable are replaced by new ones. Knowing that the world is running out of its resources, we need to think more about the idea of re-using our items.
With this in mind, we launched the, “Don’t Buy, Produce.” project last year and put it into practice with our visit to “Shoe Repair Workshop”. Within the scope of this project, we have pointed out that we can continue to use our old items with a little effort without need to replace them with the new one. Our students brought their old shoes, removed the torn ones, stitched and painted them. They realized that they could re-use the damaged shoes with their own efforts in the workshop. They upcycled the ones that were meant to go to waste so as to make them ready to be re-used. They learned how to prevent wastage while developing their handicraft skills.
